I’m Michele C. Hollow, and my love for animals started early on. As a child, I took zoology classes at the Bronx Zoo. I enjoyed learning about animals and as a result of the zoology classes, I later became a volunteer tour guide at the Central Park Zoo in NYC. They had a program called Friends of the Zoo. The best part was handling the animals.
I grew up with dogs and cats; they always seemed to find me. I never purchased an animal. My cat, Earl Gray, wound up on my doorstep one evening about 15 years ago. He had a badly broken leg. When I opened the door he limped right inside. He sensed that it was okay. Earl sits on my desk while I write.
I became a journalist several years ago. I write about pets, wildlife, travel, and lifestyle topics. My byline has appeared in The NY Times, NY Daily News, The Star-Ledger, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Cat Fancy, Dog Fancy, Pet Style News, and other national publications. I’m listed as an expert at www.dogtime.com. I also write books. My latest is The Everything Guide to Working with Animals (Adams Media, April 2009). Writing about animals is my passion. I hope you will leave comments on this site. I check my blog daily–except on the weekends. I try to take some time off to spend with my family–the two-legged and four-legged members.
My goal behind this blog is to raise awareness about animal advocacy, and to generate support for animals in need. Pet News and Views has raised over $100,000 in products for animals shelters in the U.S.
