Every once in a while I come across a book  that I can’t put down. I started reading A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen while my husband was watching TV.  The room was noisy, and like a cat, I can be easily distracted. However, I tuned everything out and focused on James Bowen’s story about a cat named Bob who saved James’ life.

Recovering from drugs and living a threadbare existence, things changed when James met Bob, who was also down on his luck. The orange tabby was scruffy, hurt, and hungry. He appeared one day on a neighbor’s doorstep. James knocked on the door, and the neighbor said it wasn’t his cat. So James decided to bring Bob home.

Over the course of several weeks, James nursed Bob back to good health. While taking care of Bob, James found a purpose. He was responsible for someone else, and he took this role seriously.

Bob Follow James to Work
James worked as a street musician on the streets of London; Bob would follow him on his long trip to work, which included a bus ride.  When James set up shop, Bob would plop himself down in James’ guitar case. People admired the handsome orange tabby with the pink nose; they would slow down, listen, and toss coins and bills into the guitar case.

James shares a lot of adventures with Bob. The time Bob got lost, I read frantically worrying about Bob.
