Your Comment Equals 50 Bowls of Pet Food

By Michele C. Hollow of Pet News and Views

It’s that time again–the H4tH (Home four the Holidays) annual event–where I ask each of you to leave a comment at the end of this blog post. For each comment following this Pet News and Views’ post, Iams will donate 50 bowls of food to cats and dogs at animal adoption centers around the U.S. For your comment to be worth 50 bowls of food, you have to leave your comment in the comments section of this post.

November 11, Veteran’s Day, is my birthday, and it is my birthday wish to see food donated to thousands of animal adoption centers and rescues around the country.

For the past 14 years Iams has partnered with the Helen Woodward Animal Center in California to raise awareness of pet adoption.  “Shelters and rescues around the country are overflowing with great adoptable animals awaiting forever homes,” says Mike Arms, founder of the adoption drive and president of Helen Woodward Animal Center.  “Last year a tiny, starved Chihuahua/dachshund was brought into a shelter, weighing maybe one pound soaking wet, and very cold and miserable. The shelter helped nurse her back to health and she was adopted by a wonderful couple that fell in love with her and named her Baby. Stories like these show us the importance of promoting pet adoption and how a program like Iams Home 4 the Holidays can make a huge difference in the life of a pet.”

Last year 1.2 million pets were adopted during the holiday campaign and an estimated 5 million meals were donated to pets in need.  “With as many as 7 million orphaned pets in the U.S., this campaign is a wonderful platform to raise awareness about pet homelessness,” explains Ondrea Francy, Iams general manager.  “This year Iams and Helen Woodward Animal Center are looking to donate more bowls of food than ever before to orphaned pets; last year we gave 5 million meals to animal organizations and we’re looking to exceed that goal this year!”

For many of us on the east coast, this has been a devastating time.  Iams donated thousands of bowls of food to Hurricane Sandy affected animal adoption centers.  The food donated by your comments will go to cats and dogs at animal shelters and rescues throughout the United States. As many of you know, the need is great.

Please join me in celebrating my birthday by leaving a comment about your pet.   And tell your friends to visit and comment too.  I’m closing the contest on Tuesday, November  13, 2012, at 5 p.m. Thank you all so much!
