More Cuddle Time

How many of you slept an extra hour today? I love the end of Daylight Savings Time and the start of Standard Time when we “Fall Back.” Unfortunately, cats and dogs who are use to a more rigid schedule can get confused by the time change–even if it’s only an hour. My friends at Helen Woodward Animal Center sent me the following tips for getting your pets used to the time change.

Yea for more cuddle time!

Ease Your Pet into the Time Change
Get up a few minutes later than usual on Monday and go to bed a few minutes later as well. On Tuesday and Wednesday continue the transition by sleeping in a few more minutes each day. By the end of the week, your pet will start to get the idea.

If you run or walk with your dog every morning, don’t be surprised if he shows up at your bedside, leash in paw, a little earlier than you would prefer. Remember not to take your morning crankiness out on your pet.

If you generally feed your pet at the same time every day, its internal clock may be upset during the transition period. No need to worry. Give it a few days to adjust.

All of these things are just common sense. Be patient and understanding. It won’t take long and the love you get in return is worth it.

  • Buster and Ty were indeed looking for their dinner at their regular time tonight. They apparently are having trouble reading the clock! 😀

Who would think? You, wonderful you. Thanks for reminding us that our little ones are affected by everything in our environments. Like children, our furry family members have to be considered. More snuggle time, indeed! Short, dark days are hard on humans, but now you’ve transformed the angst–it’s simply more snuggle time. Thanks!!!

  • How funny. Dexter didn’t seem to mind. He just loves to cuddle and play day or night ROFL
