Purrs Versus Snoring

In honor of the holidays, I thought it would be fun to post some jokes, interesting fun facts about animals, and this poem that a close friend wrote. My friend wants to remain anonymous because she doesn’t want to create a rift with her husband, whom she loves dearly. I can relate. I have a husband who snores and a cat who wakes me up in the wee hours of the morning purring for cuddle time.

Pet News and Views  is going through a redesign. I am taking a few days off over the holidays, and will post on December 21 and December 28. Starting January 4, I will be up and running again—hopefully with a new look. I hope you enjoy.  And thanks to all of you who continue to read Pet News and Views. I really appreciate your support and feedback.

Happy Holidays, and I wish all of you a healthy, prosperous, and wonderful 2010.–Best, Michele

 Nightly Duet

At night

When all is still

Except for crickets

And a gentle breeze

There are two other sounds I hear

One that gives me a chill

And one that sets my mind at ease

Both are almost cousins, so to speak, or friends
Yet the emotions they evoke are at opposite ends.

One sound is that of a purring cat

Deep and rhythmic, the very definition of contentment

A lullaby to cuddle to

The other is my husband snoring

Loud, gaspy, raspy

A noise to set my nerves askew

So there I lie

Cat on my stomach

Husband at my side

Engaged in a rumbling duet

Leaving me to wonder why it’s so easy to abide

One sound and not the other

When one is my wedded spouse

The other just a pet?
